Shark Tank

In the shark tank I watched, the lady was pitching her homemade cakes that she sells throughout the country. The speaker did a good job of explaining her cakes and what went into making them. She also did a good job telling how she distributed her cakes and who she sold them too. One thing the speaker did that was not good was not give them direct answers about her sales. This caused a lot of the investors to back out of helping her. From this, I have learned that when my group presents, we need to have collective answers that will not confuse the audience and will directly inform them.

4/7 homework

The biggest gap I noticed about UK FUSION is their lack of emotional appeals in their advertising. Because they are a non-profit organization, it is important for them to make people want to volunteer and feel like what they are doing is actually helping others. UK FUSION uses no emotional appeal and it is something they really need to start doing. They could begin to do this by simply showing pictures of the people who be helped by participants service. Doing this will put a face to those in need in the minds of people considering doing UK FUSION. They also could add emotional appeals by telling stories of previous people who have been helped by UK FUSION participants and how the event helped them. This gap can easily be filled by just adding a few simple things to their advertising.

2/17 homework

The job I decided to apply for was the entry level public relations and marketing position at J.M.E Marketing in Chicago. After visiting their website, I learned a lot about the company and what their values are. Starting in Chicago, they plan to branch out to other cities in the next year including Los Angeles and New Orleans. Their values are very similar to mine. They include integrity, positivity, work ethic, teamwork, and personal growth. Based on what they put about themselves, it appears that they promote growing yourself as well as the company. Working together to better everyone involved in the production. They also are honest about their work and have integrity with everything they do.

1/24 homework

I am an ISC major who is focusing on public relations. An event in the news that relates to my field in Justin Bieber's recent arrest in Miami. The event relates to my career field because every celebrity has a publicist who is in charge of maintaining his image to the public. People in my field care about this event because what Bieber did is a publicists worst nightmare and something that everyone in the field may have to deal with at some point in their career. This could raise ethical questions or dilemmas in my field because what he did was very wrong but it is still his publicists job to cover it up and make it okay, despite what their views are. In my future company, a stakeholder could view this very differently. If they had something personal happen to them, such as a relative dying from drinking and driving, they might not be okay with covering up Bieber driving under the influence. Yes, I would acknowledge the relevance of this in a meeting because it is a big deal and something the whole company should know about. I also would bring this event up to stakeholders to build credibility because it is a big deal and is I am able to rebuild his image after this, it would be something to tell people.

1/22 homework

The first job ad I found was for an entry level public relations and marketing position in Chicago at J.M.E marketing. I found the listing on careerbuilder.com. I chose to apply for this job because it says they are one of the top performing companies in the United States and is in a big city like where I would like to live. I also meet the job requirements such as being a team player and having interpersonal skills. The second job ad I found was for a public relations assistant at an event/promotions and planning firm in Houston. I found this listing on careerbuilder.com as well. I chose to apply for this job because along with public relations, I also want to do some event planning for promotional events as well. I also meet the job requirements such as having a B.A. in ISC and being very organized. The third job ad I found was also for a public relations assistant at an event/promotions and planning firm in Nashville. I found this ad on careerbuilder.com. I would apply for this job because it is a bigger city but is still pretty close to Kentucky, which is where I am from. I also meet all of the requirements and would do a great job with the position. I learned a lot about the companies from their ads. All three were professional and very clear cut about what type of person they were looking for to fill the position. Once I have all of my job search documents completed, I would apply for the position in Nashville. I would apply there because Nashville is a great city that is still close to my hometown. The position offers everything I will be looking for in a job. Along with public relations, I am very interested in event planning and this position fulfills both of those. I meet all of the job requirements and am confident that I would thrive in that position.
